Mitsubishi Electric EDM and Abplanalp: Together Towards the Future
2024 was full of challenges that presented the entire machine tool industry with new tasks. Manuel Dillmann, Director of the Mechatronics Machinery EDM/LPM Department at Mitsubishi Electric Europe, summarizes: “Geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty led to a clear decline in the willingness to invest. In particular, traditional sectors, such as the automotive industry, had to face increasing global competition. Nevertheless, we used this time to strengthen our organization and invest in future-oriented technologies.”

In this challenging environment, the strategic partnership between Mitsubishi Electric EDM and Abplanalp proved to be crucial. Thanks to fruitful collaboration in building a position on the Polish market, both companies were able to significantly strengthen their presence. Abplanalp's technical expertise and top-class service became key success factors. "Our mutual customers benefit from an extensive support network that ensures the highest level of technical service and application consulting," explains Hans-Jürgen Pelzers, Sales Director EDM at Mitsubishi Electric Europe.
One of the most important milestones of this cooperation was the successful implementation of the XEDM system—an innovative CAM solution integrated directly with the CNC control and featuring a Polish-language interface. Another breakthrough was the introduction of EDM-Dress technology, enabling the automatic profiling of super-hard grinding wheels. These successes resulted in the expansion of the cooperation at the end of 2024. Abplanalp was appointed to serve customers and potential contractors in the Baltic states.
For 2025, both companies have planned ambitious actions toward further digitalization of services. The introduction of the mcAnywhere Live platform will take technical support to a new level. This innovative solution will enable fast, precise, and cost-effective remote support, which will become a key competitive advantage in the face of increasing efficiency requirements.
The industry faces growing challenges related to precision, productivity, and automation. Mitsubishi Electric and Abplanalp respond to these needs with a comprehensive technology portfolio. XEDM and XpressCAM systems streamline programming and machine control, while EDM-Dress sets new standards in automatic grinding wheel processing. The integration of these technologies allows customers to optimize production processes, making them more efficient and economical.
"We see 2025 as an opportunity to further strengthen our position as a technological leader," emphasizes Manuel Dillmann. "Our continuous investments in research and development, combined with the strong partnership with Abplanalp, create ideal conditions to meet growing market demands. The digitalization of services through mcAnywhere Live is just the beginning of a broad transformation strategy."
The future of the machine tool industry will largely depend on the effective integration of the latest technologies and intelligent service solutions. Mitsubishi Electric and Abplanalp focus on combining proven precision technology with innovative digital tools. This strategy allows for a flexible response to changing market conditions while maintaining the highest quality standards for which both companies are known.

"Our common goal is not only to provide state-of-the-art technologies but also to comprehensively support customers in their optimal utilization," summarizes Hans-Jürgen Pelzers. "Expanding our presence into the Baltic states and the continuous development of service offerings are key steps on this path."
